How we Value Russian Impressionism

11 Jul

Less well known in this tradition of creativity is the painting of the Russian Impressionist period, lasting from approximately 1930 to 1980. Russian Impressionism made an important contribution to the cultural heritage of Russia, but until recently, little has been known of its beauty and quality and its leading artists because of Soviet isolationism. During this period much of the cultural life in the Communist Soviet Union was denied Western exposure. The demise of Communism, the lifting of the Iron Curtain and the movement towards freedom and democracy of the newly formed Commonwealth of Independent States has allowed the world the opportunity to experience a unique and important historical past through the oil paintings.

At present, the price is still very low in Russia’s art market. With the gradual recovery of Russian economy, its development speed and potential is explosive. In this case, Russian paintings will inevitably have a huge appreciation space and their status will be widely recognized in the world, following by the international art market. In China , with the expanded art market, Russian paintings have a greater appreciation potential and space. The prospects of current domestic painting market auction and collection are very promising. The realistic painting styles have been pursued by people.

Despite of the great potential of Russian paintings, the experts pointed out that not all works had collectible value. The works from world renowned or influential painters can be put into collection, because their paintings symbolized superb art and broad appreciation space. Russia has a strong tradition of painting and a large number of painters. We should focus on those with higher popularity and effect, in particular with titles of “people artist”, “meritorious artist”, and “academician” and even the title of “hero”.
